Angela Merrick, Executive Director
Angela grew up in Iowa City, Iowa. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 2006, and has a background in journalism and nonprofit management. She became the Executive Director of the YWCA Ames-ISU in August 2011. She is married, and has three boys - a 9 year-old named Oliver, a 7 year-old named Hudson, and a 3 year-old named Liam. They also have a boxer named Mugsy. Angela spends her free-time attending her kids activities, traveling, reading, camping, fishing, swimming and spending time with family.

Sydney Anderson, Financial/Office Assistant
Sydney is a current freshman at Iowa State planning on double majoring in Finance and Management. She moved to the Des Moines area a few years ago after growing up in the small town of New Hampton, Iowa. Sydney loves spending her free time outdoors, playing volleyball, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeye’s Basketball Team. She is currently a member of the Chi Omega sorority and can not wait to become more involved in the community of Ames!

Elizabeth Cavitt, GIRLS Power Mentoring Coordinator
Lizzy is a junior majoring in Environmental Engineering at Iowa State University. She is from Omaha, Nebraska and has also lived in Oregon, Virginia, and Michigan. She loves spending time outdoors playing tennis and volleyball with friends. She is currently an executive board member for Alpha Chi Omega sorority and serves as the Vice President of Public Relations and Marking. She was a mentor for the 2020-2021 school year, and has been a coordinator since early 2021. Lizzy's favorite part of the program is being a role model for young women.

Maddy Lakomek, GIRLS Power Mentoring Coordinator
Maddy is a junior at Iowa State studying electrical engineering. She is from Munster, Indiana and loves being active and spending time with her family, friends, and dog. Maddy was a mentor for the 2019-2020 school year and was coordinator last year. Maddy's favorite part of the program is spending time with her mentee and being able to be a role model for so many young girls.

Jacqueline Murphy, CollegeBound Mentoring Coordinator
Jacque is a junior majoring in English Education and Communications with a minor in Spanish. She was born and raised in Ames and has always loved Iowa State. Jacque loves to spend time with her friends and family, read, and attempt to bake. Jacque’s favorite part of the program is being able to positively contribute to the Ames and Iowa State communities.

Yiqi Liang, Global Outreach Coordinator Coordinator
Yiqi is currently a second-year Ph.D. student in Aerospace Engineering. Her research focuses on engineering education, specifically on female Non-Native English-Speaking (NNES) doctoral students' challenges in the engineering field. She is from Beijing, China, and she came to the United States when she was a freshman in high school. She has prior experience being a peer mentor with first-year residential students. She also helped lead recitations for female students learning about race, gender, and diversity and empowering female students in colleges. In her spare time, she loves devoting her time to designing press-on nails, painting, and traveling (she is a Disney fan and she traveled to Disney World four times), as well as spending as much time playing with her dog KK.
